The pen and the pencil are undoubtedly amazing objects. They represent the culmination of thousands of years of functional design evolution. That is to say, they've hardly changed at all... and with good reason of course- the humble pencil (and pen) are almost perfect in their simplicity. I can only assume that the pencils I use today are part of a direct lineage stretching all the way back, through the ages, to a time when they were just a special type of stick.

Apart from perhaps superior materials and improved pigments, pen and pencil design has remained largely unchanged precisely because it doesn't need to be changed. In fact, I would go as far as to say pen/pencil technology is at it's zenith. We are living in the golden age of drawing implements. Tell what can beat an HB and a Biro? Nothing, that's what.

Of course, I'm no expert in this field. I just happen to use pencils on a daily basis and have a brain. Unlike the people at Yoropen who took the ambitious, foolhardy and ultimately doomed decision to attempt to improve the pen...

What are you supposed to do in the face of such stupidity?

Jump on the bandwagon, that's what...
