OS X Menu Bar Flag Hack
I’ve still been hacking OS X on the MacBook. Making it do things that it shouldn’t. Or things that it should. Depends on how you look at it. One such tweak is the changing of the flag icon in the menu bar. As a Scot, it only seems right to have a Saltire up there rather than a Union Jack. Like this:

If you want, you can download the OS X menu bar Saltire for use on your own comp. I’ve done all the hacking and packaged it up all nicely so it’s just a drag-and-drop affair. And I’ve also included some roll-you-own instructions so if you are that way inclined you can change the flag icon to anything you like.

Have you tried doing it yourself?

Hey Gregor,
This looks perfect, however doesn’t seem to work on Snow Leopard. Have you ever updated since 2006?
There doesn’t appear to be a Roman.bundle in my system > library > keyboard directory!
Thanks man,
Paul

Hey man, you might want to ignore my previous comment.
I was under the assumption that in order for your hack to work, i had to put it in Mac HDD > System > Library > Keyboard Layouts.. where there was already a bundle for the default layouts.
In fact, i created a Scottish layout (based on the British layout – just a different flag and keyboard) using the Ukelele app.
I then saved as a bundle on my desktop, and dragged the bundle into Paul (my username) > Library > Keyboard Layouts.
Logged on and off, and selected it from my input sources. Worked perfect.
I’ve not tried using the Roman bundle in this way, although i think it might work in a similar fashion.
Cheers man –
Paul

Hey Paul,
Thanks for the info. That’ll come in handy for the next release of the hack.
